I designed and built these long bins specifically to fit under the girls bunk beds.
Recently when the girls bunked their beds we were left with a vast open unused space below:
To make the best use of that space I decided rolling storage bins were the answer.
I measured, designed and constructed three boxes to fit the space.
They are long - 40" by 21" wide but not too deep - only 7" - which is good because kids do better with shallow drawers and bins. Too deep and the clothes only get piled and lost.

I attached five wheels to the underside for easy rolling in and out and the middle wheel helps carry the weight:
In other updates I added wall lights for reading in bed:
And updated their wooden name letters to attach to their beds:
The letters are hanging on hooks so when the girls decide to switch places they can easily switch the letters as well:
The kids room is coming along, about one-third done.
Stay tuned for more updates.

Your girls' room is adorable. We have bunkbeds too and I totally agree that the room underneath is wasted space. You made a great solution though!

Love these, just went and bought the wood for them to go under my boys new bunk beds! Thanks for sharing such a wonderful idea to add storage and clean up their new room!
love it! I think the drawers would look nice with a 2 drawer pulls on each one that match the dresser! : )
Whaddup! Here I am, browsing Pinterest for kids' storage solutions, and who do I find?? My blog bff, Jaime! I've pinned this and will be linking to it in my post either tomorrow or Thursday. :)
You're a rock star!
Aloha,
Charlie
Did you nail these together? It doesn't look like you screwed them. If so, what size finish nails did you use? How thick is the plywood?
Thanks in advance.
I am curious about the relative age of your girls...mine are pretty young, and I am wondering if the drawers are heavy??
