DIY Play Vanity

diy kids play vanity and stool

It's another handmade holiday diy gift build plan from Ana White and this week we're happy to bring you this kids play vanity.

The cutest little vanity with a drawer and mirror built just the right height for pint sized girls.

And you can diy the vanity stool with slipcover to complete the build:

It's a simple build utilizing stair balusters for legs and costs about $50 in supplies.
The mirror itself was an additional $25 and I built the stool and slipcover using scrap wood, fabric I had on hand and a store bought stool cushion for $12.

The play vanity is extremely sturdy even with the weight of the mirror.  The corbels provide additional support and I added 1x2 vertical brackets on the back side (see down below) to keep the mirror in place.

I choose a simple 3/4" moulding for the top surface edge which mimics the routing on the corbels:

How to build a kids play vanity:

1. Follow Ana's plans and construct the base vanity.

I cut the balusters like this:

And assembled the frame using pocket holes.
Use the top cut off portion of the baluster as your spacer when attaching the drawer mount part of the frame:

 2. For the mirror make a frame to fit over your mirror:

Attach the mirror to the back side of the frame using mirror clips:

Cut the corbels to the proper width:

And attach to side of mirror using pocket holes:

3. Prime and paint everything two coats Benjamin Moore simply white.

4. Secure 2 - 1x2 boards to the back of the mirror and then to the vanity base:

I used a 1/4" spacer between the 1x2 support and the mirror frame:

5. Build the stool using Ana's plans here.
Modify the leg height to 12 1/2" and the seat to 12" diameter circle to fit properly under the vanity.

6. Purchase a premade foam cushion and make the slipcover following my post here.
