Take It Outside: Beautiful Backyard Blogger Series

backyard with pool

Welcome to our backyard!  It's been awhile since I shared much about our outdoor space so when my friend Stefanie from Brooklyn Limestone asked if I wanted to take part in her Beautiful Backyard Blogger Series it was a no brainer to say yes!

Stefanie will be featuring 10 blogger backyards over the next two weeks, be sure to stop by her blog for a new and different beautiful backyard every day.

Our backyard space is simply another room to our 1740 home and functions similar to many family's backyards.  Plenty of space to run, play, bounce, swim, sit and eat.  There are a handful of DIY projects sprinkled throughout our outdoor space and I will be sure to point them out along the way starting with the giant dining table:

I built the outdoor trestle style dining table two summers ago and it has not moved since.  It seats 10 adults comfortably and has so much surface area for food and decor I absolutely love it.

Habitat for Humanity Reveal

diy bloggers at habitat house

Those wonderful people pictured above are all bloggers who, under the guidance of Charlotte from Ciburbanity, teamed up to furnish a Habitat for Humanity house and I'm so honored to have been part of that team! (Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the installation day which is why I'm not in the picture :( but there in spirit.)  Please read on to hear about this wonderful project and all the amazing bloggers contributions.

It's true when they say 'it takes a village'.  The bloggers paired up and took over a room in the house to furnish and decorate top to bottom.  My partner was Laura from Finding Home Farms, who is a master stylist in my eyes, and we were assigned the Living Room:

The larger pieces (sofa and chair) were selected by the new homeowner and Laura and I worked around those choices.  I built the coffee table and circular side table as well as refinished a bench (not pictured) near the front entry.  Laura selected the rug from RugsUSA and the lighting and throw pillows were made possible by donations from Hometalk and Wayfair.

Simple yet super comfortable this makes a relaxing space for a busy family.

DIY Cedar Underbed Storage

diy cedar underbed storage bins

Popping in with a quick and easy project for diy cedar underbed storage bins.  While the concept of underbed storage is definitely not new I decided to make it even better and used cedar boards for this project.

I first shared the wood cake slices on Instagram back in January (be sure to follow me there for project sneak peeks and more behind the scenes looks):

Today I'll show you just how to cut and assemble these fun faux food cake slices.  You can paint the cake and frosting your favorite flavors like chocolate, vanilla or strawberry!

Then add small details for decorations to fit your theme or event.  Sprinkles, decorative trim, and any frosting design or swirls makes each slice unique and yummy.

Poolside Storage Unit

diy poolside storage unit using crates

Using crates for storage isn't a new concept but I'm taking them poolside for the summer to store towels and toys.  A great solution for everyone - the kids know exactly where to find googles and small toys and towels are at the ready when they emerge plus mom doesn't have to run around searching for things.

The folks at Crates & Pallet have put together some very creative and amazing diy bloggers to bring you lots of Summer Storage ideas using these large crates and BONUS there's a giveaway down below!  Be sure to stop by a visit these lovely ladies and check out their projects:

My poolside storage unit is pretty straight forward with three large crates stacked (and attached) on top of each other plus a diy base and top.  I also added a 'pull-out drawer' by resizing one of the large crates to fit inside another large crate.  Pretty genius I thought ;)
