Clay Skull Place Cards

We're getting ready for a sugar skull Halloween party so I came up with these clay skull place cards:

I'm sharing all the details over at Brittany's blog Pretty Handy Girl.  It's a easy craft even the kids could manage.  I attached the clay skulls to black goblets and after the party they become key fobs for their backpacks!

A handpainted sign is always a great addition and this Halloween version has a fun saying.  Or add your own words, the technique remains the same.

DIY Cedar Name Plaque

Scrap wood lovers I'm over at Lolly Jane sharing this easy diy cedar name plaque:

I whipped these up for my niece and new nephew recently using cedar scrap wood and acrylic paint.  And scrap wood will do and you could even use vinyl lettering if you have one of those fancy vinyl cutting machines.  Get the details here.

How to Build a Round Coffee Table

how to build a round coffee table

Sometimes, when you add a piece of furniture and it changes your whole perspective on a room.  This round coffee table did just that for my living room and I bet it might have the same effect for your space too!  I’ve teamed up with the beautiful folks at Simpson Strong-Tie® to bring you this round coffee table and I’m showing you how so you can build one too.

The base construction is almost like tinker toys where you can cut all the pieces and pre-paint, then assemble. I used two different Simpson Strong-Tie® connectors along with their easy self-tapping SD8wafer-head wood screws to attach all the pieces.

Watch this fast motion video of the assembly and you’ll see exactly how it all comes together:

Half Square Triangle Quilt

half square triangle quilt

We have a new baby nephew in our family and I love to make scrap busting quilts for new little ones. Today I'm spilling the details on this half square triangle quilt I just shipped off to him in Arizonia.  It makes a great floor mat for little ones and later on a lightweight bed cover.

My blogger friend Michelle at Decor and the Dog made a beautiful navy and white herringbone quilt for her new son using the half square triangle method and I've loved it ever since she posted it.

My version is more of an alternating light and dark offset square pattern.  I started with 4" square pieces, all shades of blue and white which is great for using up a ton of scraps.  The backing is solid green and the binding yellow just for contrast and fun.

Back to School: Apple Wood Tray

diy apple wood tray

Hooray it's the most wonderful time of the year (and I'm not talking about Christmas)!  Back to school means schedules and routine and sanity in our house and this Mommy really loves that.  I also love to give the teachers a little 'back to school' gift so today I'm sharing these easy apple wood trays made from a pre-cut 18" round that costs $5.

Life is good when circles are pre-cut and this wood round is a nice chunky 1" thick.  Paint it however you like and add some handles for a very cute and useful gift.
