Painted Coffee Table with Vintage Effect Wash

* This post is sponsored by DecoArt.

painted outdoor coffee table

Looking for a vintage, weathered finish that's easy to apply and available in many colors?  I just painted my outdoor coffee table using DecoArt's Vintage Effect Wash in white and I'm extremely happy with the results.

This color wash paint goes on super smooth and easy with great coverage.  I painted this outdoor table over 3 weeks ago before taking these photos and the finish hasn't faded one bit.  This table stays outside in hot sun, humidity and rain so I expect the finish will age a bit in the elements but so far it's like new.

Tools for a Portable Workshop

portable workshop tools

It's no secret that my workshop happens to be outside so I end up moving all my tools in and out every time I want to work.  Easy portability is key and today I'm sharing 4 tools that help make up the portable workshop.  Even if you have an amazing indoor workshop you might want to consider some of these portable tools for your space.

That would be a clean photo of my workshop.  I've shared a messy version many times on Instagram but now I have this amazing rolling toolbox system from Husky so I can bring all the hardware and tools out in one swoop!

The only issue is my basement storage area is two steps down:

(Side note: we live in a 1740 saltbox farmhouse that had a dirt floor basement until about 1994 when they dug 24" down to add footers, steel support posts, french drains and a proper floor.)

See how I take the Husky rolling toolbox filled with about 80 pounds of hardware and tools right up those steps and out to my workspace with ease:

I used the cutting bit to make holes into little wood letters.  You can see the pivot light provides precise placement on your work surface.

And can we talk about the storage case?  Every amazing tool comes with a well planned out storage system and carrying case and this Dremel rotary tool is no exception.  A place for everything and everything in its place.

Step 1: To make the mini marquee sign use precut mini wood letters and determine your word.  Paint the letters first and then glue onto 1/4" plywood rectangular shape to fit your word.

Speciality Tools to Consider

*This post is sponsored by The Home Depot and includes affiliate links.

I used to be basic tool girl.  Give me a saw, drill and sander and I'm good to go.

But recently I had the opportunity to try a few new tools and I have definitely changed my basic tool mindset.  Today I'm sharing 4 speciality tools worth considering and if you're thinking like I did - that you only need the basics - I'm about to change your mind.

speciality tools worth considering

These four tools: Ryobi belt sander, Dremel multi-max, Husky socket wrench and Ryobi hammer drill quickly found themselves useful in my everyday projects.  Let me show you a bit about each tool and where I used them recently.

ryobi belt sander in action

First the Ryobi cordless, brushless belt sander where have you been all my life!!!  Fast, powerful and extremely effective - the results speak for themself.

This outdoor coffee table was built from older pressure treated boards used in a previous project.  In hopes of giving this table a fresh finish I wanted to sand off the layer of weathered muck, dirt and wear before applying stain.
